Education for Law Enforcement

The Demonstration project outcomes under law enforcement had several results.

  1. Revision of NC State Highway Patrol’s Examination HP 640 form and the directions for improved identifying and reporting medical-at-risk drivers for a driving examination. The revision provided greater clarity and ease, allowing the officer(s) to check boxes of specific behavior they may observe that might suggest there is a medical condition.
  2. The proactive Charlotte/Mecklenburg Police Department  (CMPD) determined it would be useful to adapt the Recommendation for Medical/Driver Examination form for their department.
  3. In collaboration with  the CMPD, Charlotte Department of Transportation, ECU, and with contributions from NHTSA, an was created specific for the CMPD.  However, the education is applicable to any law enforcement agency.
