Driving Simulator
All the learning activities come together when the participant drives on the interactive simulators. Each participant has time on the driving simulator, progressing in abilities and skills at their own rate. In fact, we have two interactive driving simulators. One is used for evaluation. During the evaluation for determining eligibility for the Bootcamp, one simulator’s scenario is driven and “scored” using a standardized occupational therapy assessment for driving. At the end of the Bootcamp, the participant drives that same scenario and is scored again.
The other simulator is used for the intervention. Previous occupational therapy students have developed a hierarchy of driving skills and scenarios, so depending on the participant’s skill and learning ability, they will progress through the lessons. One of the most ecologically valid activities, the participants take the learning and practice seriously and gain much from this experience.
